Halifax Set to Move into Former McDonald's
Tuesday, 29 April 2008 22:17

At last Barnsley Town Centre is almost ready to fill one of its biggest eye sores, the former McDonald's building. The building at the centre of town has caused many complaints from other traders in the town centre who have long said that buildings left empty are giving the town a negative and run down image.

The outlet for the Halifax Bank is due to open in June and finally put an end to the saga. Old McDonald's Building

McDonald's are understood to be planning to return to the town centre in the coming years although they are said to have no definite plans at the moment.

It is hoped that they may take one of the units that becomes available when the town centre has finished being redeveloped in the next 3 years. Barnsley town centre certainly lacks a fast food outlet, although pub chains have moved steadily to fill the gap with reasonable pub meals.

The shift comes amid the resurgence of McDonald's and their new British Chief executive who is said that he wants to return to McDonald's strong reputation for fast food. This is after McDonald's lost market share during the last few years when it focused on healthy salads amongst others snacks to satisfy campaigners.
