Some 26 workers at the Wybone bin factory in Barnsley have begun striking on Fridays over pay. The workers, members of the Community union, want a 4 percent wage increase. Management has imposed a 3 percent rise with a new bonus scheme that excludes temporary workers. One of the strikers said, “The company is boasting that it made £6.2 million last year and hopes to make £6.5 million this year. “But they won’t give us a pay increase that keeps up with inflation.” There was a lively picket line during the strike on Friday of last week and the workers are set to strike for the next three Fridays.
