Barnsley manager Keith Hill says he wants to make two permanent signings before Tuesday's Championship clash with Derby County at Oakwell.
That day is also the cut-off point for the January transfer window.
Hill has already brought in Michael Tonge and Korey Smith on loan deals this week, to offset the injury to Jacob Butterfield and the departure of Danny Drinkwater to Leicester.
Speaking to the Oakwell Club's official website, Hill said: "We're still wanting to add two permanent additions to the squad. We are working on things.
"I'm delighted to have brought in Michael Tonge and Korey Smith.
"Michael brings that experience and that quality what Jacob and Danny brought to the table. We see Michael as a player who can unlock doors for us.
"He needs to kick-start his football career again. He's not played a lot of games but he's got the quality in abundance that we're always searching for. Tony Pulis has done us a great deal, financially, and we thank him for that."
Tonge, 28, has joined the Reds until the rest of the season, while Smith, 21 next week, has signed a one-month deal.
"Korey has been unfortunate, he hasn't played the games he's wanted. He's here initially for a month and we'll have a good look at him in that time.
"Paul Lambert (Norwich City Manager) knows what a good player he is and he wants him to get some match fitness. There's a possibility Paul might recall him, but if not it's very good business for us. We see him as an essential addition to the squad.
"He can take us forward into the next phase of the season. He comes highly recommended. He's very industrious but he's also excellent with the ball and he's got great mobility. He's a great signing but hopefully we can extend it.
"What we don't want to do is lose momentum. We want to push on."
- Meanwhile, new loan man Michael Tonge believes he can fill the creative void in Barnsley's midfield that has been left by Jacob Butterfield's season-ending injury.
